Memorial Day Tribute

In honor of this day, I would like to take a moment to remember my family members who served in the U.S. armed forces. My grandfather (a veteran of the first World War), and my grandmother had seven sons, all of whom served our country during various conflicts. My uncles, Lionel, George, and Henry all served in World War II. Then Hank, and Hector served in Korea. Finally, my uncle, Pat, and my father, David were stationed in Germany during the Cold War.

My father is a man with many stories to tell of his youth, and he tends to remember his time in the service fondly. Between 1954 and 1956, during a time of relative peace, he was stationed at forts throughout the U.S., before being shipped to Germany, where he worked as border patrol guard between the East and the West. If asked, he will be ready to tell you about his time stationed at Fort Knox, or the time when he and his brother Pat were on leave, and got lost trying to visit their other brother George, who had been living in France since leaving the service.

To everyone who served in the U.S. armed forces, we would like to express our deepest gratitude.

Thank you
